Box Score

SAN ANTONIO - UTSA freshman guard Eric Young (Houston, Texas) scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in leading the Roadrunners to a 73-56 victory over the Cameron Aggies on Wednesday night at the UTSA Convocation Center.

UTSA, which improved to 2-0 with the win, placed three players in double figures as Andre Owens (Irving, Texas) scored 16 points, while Kurt Attaway (Flower Mound, Texas) added 11.

"We challenged our players to rebound and play better defense and I thought they responded for the most part," said UTSA coach Tim Carter. "We knew Cameron was going to be a scrappy team that we had to pay attention to, and they delivered. I was proud of the way Eric Young responded tonight to extended minutes."

Cameron, which lost its season opener, was led by Matt Reid with 12 points, while Willie Tisdale added 11.

After trailing early, UTSA closed the first half on a 23-16 run and led 35-27 at halftime as Owens and Young led the way with eight points apiece.

Young electrified the crowd with two dunks on one sequence. He was fouled on a dunk down the baseline which gave the Roadrunners a 48-40 lead.

After missing the free throw he followed a miss by Abe Donlon (Tulsa, Okla.) with a two-hand dunk underneath which upped UTSA's lead to 52-40 with 12:06 to play.

"It was a couple of big plays which helped turn the momentum our way," Young said. "We are a young team which is learning more every game."

Down 13 points, 55-42, Cameron rallied within 58-53 on a 3-point field goal by Tisdale with 6:35 remaining.

UTSA answered with a 20-3 run over the final 6:35 as Attaway had four points and Young, three down the stretch.

For the second straight game the Roadrunners shot well from the field, connecting on 27 of 52 field goal attempts (51.9 percent). UTSA out-rebounded Cameron by a 42-27 margin.

The Roadrunners will return to action this Saturday, Nov. 26 with a 12:05 p.m. game at No. 18 Iowa. The game with the Hawkeyes can be heard live on KKYX Radio 680AM and on www.goUTSA.com.
