June 27, 2005 Contact: Kyle Stephens (210) 458-4907 Dupree, freshman trio shine at USA Outdoor Championships USA Outdoor/USA Junior Complete Results UTSA Results Only - USA Outdoor | USA Junior CARSON, Calif. - UTSA junior All-American Ryanne Dupree finished 10th in the women’s heptathlon at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and a trio of Roadrunners capped their freshman campaigns by earning Junior All-America honors at the USA Junior Outdoor Championships held over the weekend at The Home Depot Center.
Dupree scored 5,523 points for 10th place out of 17 competitors in the women’s heptathlon to continue her outstanding junior season. The Southland Conference Outdoor Athlete of the Year was second among collegians as she turned in her second-best career performance behind the school-record 5,545 posted in finishing seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 10-11.
Dupree’s heptathlon was highlighted by a 13.59 clocking in the 100-meter hurdles, a 5-6 1/2 clearance in the high jump and a career-best 37-2 1/2 measure in the shot put. Hyleas Fountain (Nike) won the competition with 6,208 points.
The freshman trio of Ashley Allen, Cedric Harris and Luke Johnson all earned Junior All-America accolades by finishing in the top eight in their respective events.
Allen scored 4,798 points for a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon, her second-highest point total behind the 4,871 posted in finishing fourth at the SLC Outdoor in May. Allen was secon among collegians in the field of 16 athletes 19 years old and under which was won by Shevell Quinley (5,142).
Harris sped to a 10.83 clocking to finish seventh in the finals of the men’s 100 meters after turning in a 10.69 in the prelims. He also placed 11th in the prelims of the 200m with a 21.62 effort.
Johnson heaved the 14-pound shot (NCAA uses 16-pound shots) to a distance of 56-10 1/4 to take eighth in the men’s shot put. He also measured 168-4 for 11th place in the hammer throw.
Fellow freshman Steven Brown also competed at the USA Junior Outdoor, finishing 11th in the men’s long jump (23-0), 10th in the prelims of the 100m (10.80) and 16th in the 200m prelims (22.15).
