A Look at the Series
The Bears lead the all-time series with UTSA 21-2 and have taken a win in 19 consecutive meetings. UTSA’s last victory in the series came in 1994, 7-6. Earlier in the season, the Bears edged the Roadrunners 4-2 at Wolff Stadium. The Roadrunners have only been able to score 16 total runs in the last nine meetings with Baylor.

Northwestern State Rewind
Senior Sean Danielson got things started for UTSA with a leadoff home run and senior Aaron Rodriguez pitched his third complete of the year in a 2-1 victory on Friday. Luck changed for UTSA on Saturday as the Demons smashed two multi-RBI homers in the middle innings en route to a 9-3 win Saturday. On Sunday, the Roadrunners scored four runs in the first inning but then watched the Demons peck away at the lead before finally scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth for a 5-4 win.

Proud Father
UTSA Associate Head Coach Jason Marshall, who coaches first base, did not attend the game last Tuesday’s game at his alma mater, Texas A&M. But, Marshall had a pretty valid reason. He was with his wife Ashleigh, who gave birth to the couple’s second child, Jackson Mark Marshall, that evening. The couple also has a one-year old son, Cooper Kelly. Marshall joined the team Saturday at Northwestern State.

Leading off
Senior Sean Danielson, UTSA’s leadoff batter, has proven to be the right man in that spot this year. He is hitting .314 overall in his first year at UTSA since transferring from Kansas State. Danielson also boasts the longest hitting streak of any player this year at 12 games, which was snapped last Tuesday at Texas A&M. In those 12 games, Danielson hit .467 (21-of-45). He also leads the squad with 13 stolen bases and has made eight assists from his center field position.

Crew Charging Up the Record Charts
Junior Ryan Crew continues to make an assault on the UTSA record books in just his third season. He now ranks fourth all-time with 205 career hits. He also has moved into a tie on the career doubles list with 40 and needs only two more to take sole possession of fourth. In RBIs, Crew now ranks 10th with 96 and needs just seven to move to ninth. In home runs, his total of 17 ranks him tied for eighth all-time, while his total of seven triples puts him fourth on that stat chart.

Thank Goodness It’s Friday
Friday’s have been the most successful day of the week for the Roadrunners in 2005. UTSA is 8-3 on Friday’s and has won six consecutive conference series openers on Fridays. Also, in the last five Friday games, the Roadrunners have surrendered just eight runs.

Breakout Season
Junior J.R. Voyles is having a breakout year for UTSA and is hitting .329 and ranks second on the team with four homers and tied for third with 25 RBIs. He already has posted 15 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games in 2005. Coming into the season, Voyles was a lifetime .253 hitter with just five career home runs. he also has an eight-game hitting streak to his credit.

Good Thieves
UTSA has been successful on the base paths this season with 46 stolen bases in 45 games. The Roadrunners are 46-of-60 (.431 pct.) overall. Senior Sean Danielson leads the way with 13, while junior J.R. Voyles has eight and Ryan Crew has seven. Ryan Saltzgaber has five. In fact, Voyles has been thrown out only once in his career during his freshman year. In 2002, he was 3-for-4. In 2004, he went 8-for-8, and he is 8-for-8 this season, making him 19-for-20 in his three-year Roadrunner career.

Touch ‘Em All, Chris
Senior Chris Lewis drilled his team-leading seventh home run of the year last Tuesday at texas A&M and now has 23 in his two-year UTSA career to rank fifth all-time. Lewis, who has hit three of UTSA’s last four dingers, led the SLC with 16 round-trippers in 2004.
