UTSA women set for historic Drake Relays; men invade Houston for Rice Twilight
SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women’s track and field team will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in the historic Drake Relays this Wednesday-Saturday, April 27-30, at Drake Stadium, while the Roadrunner men head to Houston to compete in the Rice Twilight on Saturday at Rice Track Stadium.
Junior All-America Ryanne Dupree will defend her crown in the Drake Relays heptathlon which gets underway at noon Wednesday. She won last year’s meet with 5,087 points, giving her a unique double of heptathlon titles at the Texas and Drake Relays in the same season. Dupree finished fourth with an NCAA provisional-qualifying 5,298 point-total at the Texas Relays in her only heptathlon this year.
Dupree’s heptathlon victory jump-started an excellent meet for the Roadrunners last year as the sprint medley relay team of Morgan Moszee, Rosalind Holmes, Jessica Snitkoff and Leticia Cerna broke a two-year old school record with a runner-up time of 3:52.66. The 4x200-meter relay of Moszee, Shadana Hurd, Snitkoff and Holmes also posted a second-place showing with a 1:35.05 clocking. UTSA also recorded solid seventh-place finishes in the distance medley and 4x800m relays.

Sophomore Larry Brooks, a USA Junior All-American, posted a personal-best and NCAA regional-qualifying 1:49.69 in the 800m to highlight the men’s effort at last year’s Rice Twilight. That time was just over one second off the school record of 1:48.68 set by Sean Goetsch in 1995. For more information on the Rice Twilight, visit www.riceowls.com.
UTSA has eight athletes qualified in 10 different events for the NCAA Midwest Regional, while two athletes are provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Championships.
For the men, freshman Cedric Harris is qualified in the 100m (10.48), while senior Curtis Johnson has a qualifier in the 200m (20.99). Junior T.R. Sissel is in the 400m hurdles field (52.22), while freshman Steven Brown has qualified for the long jump (24-4 1/4). The 4x100m relay team of Harris, Brown, Sissel and Johnson also has a regional time of 40.39, while junior Bryan Wolfe owns an NCAA provisional qualifier of 7,045 in the decathlon.
On the women’s side, Holmes is in the regional field in the 100m (11.51) and 200m (23.80), while Dupree has regional marks in the 100m hurdles (13.74) and long jump (19-11) and a provisional qualifier in the heptathlon (5,298). Sophomore Lyndsey Sidney is regionally-qualified in both the 100m (13.90) and 400m (1:00.58) hurdles and Moszee is in the long jump (20-2 1/4).
