Allen Wins Heptathlon; UTSA men’s 4 x 100 team sets meet record to highlight day two at the Whataburger/UTSA Relays Final Results | AP Agate
SAN ANTONIO – UTSA freshman Ashley Allen (Buffalo Gap, Texas) claimed the final event of the heptathlon, the 800-meter run, to score a come-from-behind victory in the event to highlight the final day of action at the Whataburger/UTSA Relays on Saturday at Comalander Stadium.
Allen trailed Tara Burns of Texas-Arlington by 13 points entering the 800m, but ran to first place in a time of 2:21.46 to out-distance Burns, 4,696 points to 4,480.
The UTSA men’s 4 x 100m relay team of Cedric Harris (Port Arthur, Texas), Steven Brown (Mesquite, Texas), T.R. Sissel (Junction, Texas) and Curtis Johnson (Pampa, Texas) won its event in a time of 40.91, which tied for the third-fastest run in UTSA track history and was also a meet record.
Rosalind Holmes (Kerens, Texas) won the women’s 100m going away with a time of 11:53. Yesterday in the prelims, Holmes had a run a meet record time of 11.51 in the event.
Sophomore Morgan Moszee (San Antonio, Texas) won the women’s triple jump (37-01.00), followed by teammates Demetria Holmes (San Antonio, Texas) with a jump of 34-07.75, and Brittany Epps (Midwest City, Okla.) with a jump of 32-01.00.
Ryanne Dupree (San Antonio, Texas) won the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 13.74, while Chelsa Molina won the women’s javelin with a throw of 129-09.
UTSA alumnus Justin Youngblood won the decathlon with 6,446 points, followed by Roadrunners junior Bryan Wolfe (Raymondville, Texas) with 6,385, and Geronimo Acuna (Orange Grove, Texas) with 5,862.
Additional men’s winners were Joseph Burton (Iraan, Texas), who won the men’s javelin with a throw of 184-06, while Harris came back to win the 100m with a time of 10.50, and Dominic Brown (Schertz, Texas) won the 400m with a time of 48.26.
Strong in the relay events all weekend long, the UTSA men’s 4 x 400m relay team capped its weekend by winning with a time of 3:15.98. The UTSA women were second in the event behind Texas State, which won in a time of 3:44.53, while the Roadrunners posted a 3:48.60.
Both UTSA outdoor track and field teams will return to action on March 26 at the Texas Invitational in Austin.
