SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA men's basketball team will host Nicholls State in the Southland Conference home opener on Friday, Jan. 14. Tip is set for 8 p.m. at the Convocation Center, or about 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's contest at 6 p.m.

Northwestern State went to the free throw line 22 times in the second half, connecting on 19 in fueling a 71-66 come-from-behind win for the Demons. Rapheal Posey led UTSA with 14 points. The Demons, which outscored UTSA 43-31 in the second half, had 22 offensive rebounds and out-rebounded UTSA, 40-38.

The Coach:
Tim Carter is in his 10th season at UTSA and has a career record of 140-128 (.523) with the Roadrunners and 151-144 (.512) overall . . . He is the winningest men's basketball coach in UTSA history and has the longest tenure . . . He scored his 100th career win on Dec. 1, 2001 over Illinois State and his 100th win at UTSA on Feb. 4, 2002 at Texas-Arlington . . . Carter was named the 1999 SLC "Coach of the Year" . . . He came to UTSA after one season at Nebraska-Omaha. He has served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma (1984), Midwestern State (1984-86), Houston (1986-87), Oklahoma State (1987-90) and Northwestern (1990-94) . . . He has led UTSA to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2004.

The Matchup:
This will be the 35th all-time matchup between the two schools with UTSA holding an 18-16 lead in the all-time series. UTSA won 83-79 in overtime in Thibodaux, La., and 83-67 in San Antonio. Justin Harbert averaged 15.5 points in the two games against the Colonels.

Tough to beat in the UTSA Convocation Center, the Roadrunners have an all-time home record of 214-86 (.717) in the Convo. UTSA is 1-1 all-time in the Alamodome.

Working Overtime:
UTSA enters to 2004-05 season with a reputation as team that is tough in overtime. The Roadrunners are now 13-7 all-time in extra session games under coach Tim Carter, and have won 10 of the past 11.

Second Half Scoring Outbursts:
UTSA has enjoyed second halves this season in terms of scoring points. The Roadrunners average 37.6 points per game in the final 20 minutes of each game. Unfortunately for UTSA, opponents are averaging 39.8 per game in the second half.

UTSA Faces Tough Schedule:
According to the Sagarin College Basketball Rankings, UTSA has played the 36th toughest schedule of all NCAA Division I schools after the game with Northwestern State. UTSA is currently ranked No. 155 overall.

Injury Report:
Point guard Kurt Attaway is sidelined with an injured right thumb (torn ligament suffered on Dec. 12) and will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Harbert Returns:
Senior Justin Harbert, who was academically ineligible for the first six games, has returned to the lineup with a bang, averaging 14.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in the last six games. With 16 3-point field goals in those games he already ranks second on the team in that category. He had a career-high 25 points at Texas, including 21 in the first half. Harbert, a 6-1 guard, appeared in all 33 games last season, averaging 10.5 points per game and he led the Roadrunners with 63 3-point field goals.

Sign 'Em Up:
Recently UTSA announced that four players had signed national letters of intent to play for the Roadrunners next season. The signees include three incoming freshmen and a junior college transfer. Signing with UTSA are 6-6 forward Kyile Byrd from Lon Morris (Texas) Junior College; 6-1 guard Tim Maiden and 6-9 center Nkem Ojougboh from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Christian Academy; and 6-4 guard Eric Young from Eisenhower High School in Houston, Texas.
