RUSTON, La. - The Texas-San Antonio men's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track when they meet the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Saturday, Dec. 4. Tip is set for 4 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.

UTSA suffered its first loss by a 69-58 count on Dec. 1 at Murray State. The Roadrunners were done in by sloppy ball handling (26 turnovers) and poor shooting (32.7%). John Millsap led UTSA with a career-high 18 points, while Rapheal Posey added 10.

The Coach:

Tim Carter is in his 10th season at UTSA and has a career record of 137-123 (.527) with the Roadrunners and 148-139 (.516) overall . . . He is the winningest men's basketball coach in UTSA history and has the longest tenure . . . He scored his 100th career win on Dec. 1, 2001 over Illinois State and his 100th win at UTSA on Feb. 4, 2002 at Texas-Arlington . . . Carter was named the 1999 SLC "Coach of the Year" . . . He came to UTSA after one season at Nebraska-Omaha. He has served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma (1984), Midwestern State (1984-86), Houston (1986-87), Oklahoma State (1987-90) and Northwestern (1990-94) . . . He has led UTSA to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2004.

The Matchup:

It's been almost 23 years since the last and only meeting in the series between these two schools. Louisiana Tech won the only previous meeting by a 63-57 count on Feb. 20, 1982 at the UTSA Convocation Center. 1981-82 was the first season for UTSA Athletics and the basketball program.

Louisiana Tech enters the game with a 1-3 record. The Bulldogs opened the season with an 84-63 loss at home to Louisiana-Lafayette. After scoring a home win over Tulane (69-66), Louisiana Tech has dropped their last two games on the road at Auburn (79-67) and Alabama-Birmingham (66-54).

Brotherly Love:

An interesting side note to the UTSA-Louisiana Tech matchup will be the individual matchup between UTSA senior forward John Millsap and his younger brother, sophomore Paul Millsap, who starts at power forward for the Bulldogs. John comes into the game averaging 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for UTSA, while Paul averages 22.8 points and 15.0 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Paul was the top rebounder in NCAA Division I as a freshman, pulling down 12.3 rebounds per game last season. Both John and Paul grew up in Grambling, La.

Home Sweet Home:

Tough to beat in the UTSA Convocation Center, the Roadrunners have an all-time home record of 212-86 (.713) in the Convo. UTSA is 1-1 all-time in the Alamodome.

Working Overtime:

UTSA enters to 2004-05 season with a reputation as team that is tough in overtime. The Roadrunners are 12-7 all-time in extra session games under coach Tim Carter, and have won nine of the past 10.

355 and Counting:

UTSA men's basketball has 355 wins as a program. UTSA has averaged 15.3 wins a season as a program over the first 23 years, and is the winningest program in the SLC over the past nine years.

Banging The Boards:

UTSA has been a beast on the boards through four games this season, averaging 48.5 rebounds per game to only 36.0 for their opponents.

Diaper Dandies:

UTSA freshmen Abe Donlon (6.3 ppg/6.3 rpg), Adam McCoy (6.0 ppg/0.8 rpg) and Roderick Rodgers (4.5 ppg/2.0 rpg) have all played important roles for the Roadrunners during the first four games. They have combined to average 16.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per a game.

You Can Call Me Ray:

UTSA junior center Ray Selvage has made his impact felt this season with two double-double's in points and rebounds, while leading UTSA in scoring (12.3) and rebounding (9.8). He is also averaging 2.5 slam dunks per a game.

Sitting Out:

Senior Justin Harbert has been ruled academically ineligible for games played during the fall semester. "Justin cannot be certified as eligible until fall semester grades have been officially posted in December and his situation reviewed at that time," said Jeff Konya, UTSA's assistant athletic director for compliance. Harbert, a 6-1 guard, appeared in all 33 games last season, averaging 10.5 points per game and he led the Roadrunners with 63 3-point field goals.

Recently UTSA announced that four players had signed national letters of intent to play for the Roadrunners next season. The signees include three incoming freshmen and a junior college transfer. Signing with UTSA are 6-6 forward Kyile Byrd from Lon Morris (Texas) Junior College; 6-1 guard Tim Maiden and 6-9 center Nkem Ojougboh from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Christian Academy; and 6-4 guard Eric Young from Eisenhower High School in Houston, Texas.
