UTSA seeks 4-0 start at Murray State Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO - Coming off an 86-68 win over Texas A&M International on Sunday night, the Texas-San Antonio men's basketball team will look to improve to 4-0 when they travel to Murray, Ky., for a non-conference game at Murray State (2-1). Tip is set for 7:15 p.m. at the Regional Special Events Center.

The Coach:
Tim Carter is in his 10th season at UTSA and has a career record of 137-122 (.529) with the Roadrunners and 148-138 (.518) overall . . . He is the winningest men's basketball coach in UTSA history and has the longest tenure . . . He scored his 100th career win on Dec. 1, 2001 over Illinois State and his 100th win at UTSA on Feb. 4, 2002 at Texas-Arlington . . . Carter was named the 1999 SLC "Coach of the Year" . . . He came to UTSA after one season at Nebraska-Omaha. He has served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma (1984), Midwestern State (1984-86), Houston (1986-87), Oklahoma State (1987-90) and Northwestern (1990-94) . . . He has led UTSA to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2004.
The Matchup:
This will be the second all-time meeting between UTSA and Murray State, with the Racers holding a 1-0 lead in the series. Murray State defeated UTSA, 107-101 in overtime on Dec. 29, 1989 in the first round game of the Lamar Tournament in Beaumont, Texas. The Racers outscored UTSA 19-13 in overtime to pull away for the win. The Racers were led by Popeye Jones with 29 points, while UTSA was led by Mike Mason and Ronnie Ellison with 22 points apiece.
Home Sweet Home:
Tough to beat in the UTSA Convocation Center, the Roadrunners have an all-time home record of 212-86 (.713) in the Convo. UTSA is 1-1 all-time in the Alamodome.
Working Overtime:
UTSA enters to 2004-05 season with a reputation as team that is tough in overtime. The Roadrunners are 12-7 all-time in extra session games under coach Tim Carter, and have won nine of the past 10.
Sitting Out:
Senior Justin Harbert has been ruled academically ineligible for games played during the fall semester. "Justin cannot be certified as eligible until fall semester grades have been officially posted in December and his situation reviewed at that time," said Jeff Konya, UTSA's assistant athletic director for compliance. Harbert, a 6-1 guard, appeared in all 33 games last season, averaging 10.5 points per game and he led the Roadrunners with 63 3-point field goals.

Injury Report:
James Peters (concussion) has missed all three games this season. He will be a game time decision for the Murray State game. Rapheal Posey (bruised thigh) missed the Texas A&M International game, but is expected to play against the Racers.
Sign 'Em Up:
Recently UTSA announced that four players had signed national letters of intent to play for the Roadrunners next season.
The signees include three incoming freshmen and a junior college transfer. Signing with UTSA are 6-6 forward Kyile Byrd from Lon Morris (Texas) Junior College; 6-1 guard Tim Maiden and 6-9 center Nkem Ojougboh from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Christian Academy; and 6-4 guard Eric Young from Eisenhower High School in Houston, Texas.
Byrd, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as a freshman last season at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas.
Maiden, a point guard, averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 assists per game as a junior at Scottsdale last season. He formed half of a significant one-two punch for Scottsdale Christian along with Ojougboh, who averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Young, who was recently rated the 48th best player in the State of Texas by Texas Hoops magazine, averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a junior last season at Eisenhower.
