Roadrunners improve to 2-0 with 69-45 win over Texas Lutheran

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UTSA men’s basketball team pushed its record to 2-0 on the 2004-2005 season with a 69-45 victory over visiting Texas Lutheran University Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.

UTSA placed three players in double figures and held the Bulldogs to just 28 percent (16-for-56) from the floor on the night as it increased a 10-point halftime lead into as much a 26-point advantage in the second half.

Junior center Ray Selvage reached double figures for the second time in as many games as he led UTSA with 14 points, while senior Rapheal Posey posted 13 points and freshman Abe Donlon contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. UTSA out-rebounded the Bulldogs 47-37 and shot 45 percent from the floor for the game.

“I was very pleased with the play of our big men tonight,” said UTSA coach Tim Carter. “Ray Selvage, Anthony Fuqua and Dwain Hall all guarded well on the perimeter and scored when we got them the ball. We didn’t get them the ball enough in my opinion.”

Texas Lutheran, which dropped to 1-2 with the loss, was led by Nik Summers with 13 points, while Tommy Stolhandske added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Leading 34-24 at halftime, UTSA opened the second half with a 14-2 run and led 48-26 after a 3-point field goal by freshman Adam McCoy with 12:57 remaining.

Texas Lutheran was able to climb back within 48-35 when Jerrod Carpenter scored with 9:37 to play.

UTSA answered with a 16-3 run, capped by a Kurt Attaway free throw that stretched the advantage to 64-38 with 3:16 remaining.

Selvage had 12 points, including three dunks in the first half as UTSA led 34-24 at halftime.

McCoy came off of the bench to add nine points for UTSA, including three-for-three shooting behind the 3-point line.

The Roadrunners will return to action this Sunday, Nov. 28 when they host Texas A&M International at 7:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center. The game can be heard on the Roadrunner Radio Network (KKYX 680 AM and goUTSA.com) beginning at 7:15 p.m.

"We are going to have to shoot well to have success on Sunday," Carter said. "Texas A&M International will more than likely pack it in and force us to beat them from the outside."
