| Feb. 17, 2004 Contact: Kyle Stephens (210) 458-4907 All-Fastpitch Express College Classic Team announced Complete Tournament Schedule/Results SAN ANTONIO - Three players each from UTSA, Colorado State and Kansas highlight the 2004 All-Fastpitch Express College Classic Team announced Tuesday.
Roadrunners making the 10-person team were sophomore Jessica Rogers (Harker Heights, Texas) at third base, sophomore Jessica Els (Houston, Texas) at catcher and freshman Catherine Garza (San Antonio, Texas) at designated player.
Rogers led all batters with a .583 average for the classic, hitting two home runs and a double and driving in three runs. She posted a slugging percentage of 1.167 and an on-base percentage of .643 for the weekend. Els hit .500 with two longballs and five RBI, while Garza topped all DPs with a .300 average.
Kansas, the tournament champions at 5-0, also placed three players on the squad, including pitcher Kara Pierce, who was 2-0 with an ERA of 1.40 and 16 strikeouts, outfielder Mel Wallach, who hit .438 with three doubles and a triple and scored a tournament-best five runs, and shortstop Destiny Frankenstein, who hit .353 with a homer and four RBI and was a perfect 5-of-5 on stolen bases.
Colorado State also placed three on the team in outfielders Jennifer Gardner, who hit .462 with a pair of doubles, and Katie Dean, who batted .429 with three doubles and a homer, and first baseman Ricki Walker, who posted the second-best batting average of the field at .526.
Also making the team was Jamie Tanksley of Bethune-Cookman, who hit .385 at second base.
None of the all-classic infielders were charged with an error during the tournament.
