SAN ANTONIO — UTSA tied a program-record with its 10th consecutive sweep after rolling past Lamar by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-18 on Saturday at the Convocation Center. The victory tied the record previously set by the 1987 Roadrunners.

UTSA (16-8, 10-0 SLC) strengthed its grip on the Southland Conference standings after holding the Lady Cardinals (7-18, 5-5 SLC) to a .108 hitting percentage.

Redshirt junior Kesley Schwirtlich handed out 36 assists and guided the Birds to a .376 hitting percentage, while sophomore McKenzie Adams paced the attack with a match-high 11 kills. Five Roadrunners hit .500 or above, including junior Whitney Walls, who blistered the Lamar defense at a .636 clip in her 11 attempts.

Meanwhile, senior Kelsey Jewasko collected a match-high 16 digs to anchor UTSA's defense.

Adams racked up five winners and led the Roadrunners to a .400 hitting percentage in the opening frame.

UTSA dropped the first two points but responded with an 8-2 run to take control of the set. Leading 18-12, the Roadrunners reeled off three consecutive points, including kills from both freshman Dempsey Thornton and junior Brittney Malloy, to stretch the advantage to nine. The Birds won four of the final seven to claim the 10-point win.

The Roadrunners hit at a .462 clip in the second panel, as Thornton paced the squad with five winners.

UTSA raced out to an 8-4 lead behind three early kills from Thornton. Lamar cut the lead to two before a 9-4 stretch by the Birds, which was capped off by a slam from Walls, increased their advantage to eight. Adams clinched the set after blocking a back-row attack to give UTSA a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The Roadrunners' balanced attack switched to senior Elise Huskey, who netted six winners in the final stanza.

The Columbus native racked up back-to-back kills to cap off a 9-3 starr and she later picked up three more to close out the match.

UTSA will begin its final road trip of the season on Thursday, Oct. 27, when it takes on Northwestern State (8-15, 4-6 SLC).
