SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Keyunta Hayes once again rewrote UTSA's 110-meters hurdles record book and also was victorious in the 400m hurdles for the second consecutive week at Saturday's Longhorn Invitational to highlight the Roadrunners' busy weekend that included action at four meets across the country.

The reigning Southland Conference Athlete of the Week clocked a wind-aided 13.75 in a runner-up finish (top collegian) to De'Lon Ison (13.64) in the 110-meter hurdles. That was six ticks faster than the mark he recorded at last Saturday's Texas Invitational and the Tyler native now holds a commanding 38 one-hundredths-of-a-second advantage in the conference standings (12th NCAA).

Hayes went on to win the 400m hurdles for the second week in a row, this time in a personal-best time of 50.45, which vaulted him to second place on the school's all-time performance list (Jok Tan Byerly 50.19/1998). The 2011 Southland Champion now has been victorious in the event in three of his last four outings and his league lead now ranks sixth nationally.

Hayes later ran the lead leg of the squad's 1,600m relay that placed second in 3:10.85.

Meanwhile, junior Phil Steinert also won for the third time in his last four meets on Saturday, as he registered a measurement of 192-5 (58.64m) in the hammer. The Round Rock native's throw was nearly 11 feet further than his nearest competitor.

Freshman Christopher Hall clocked the second-best 400m performance in program annals en route to a third-place finish (top collegian) in the 400m at the Longhorn Invite. The Killeen native circled the Mike A. Myers Stadium oval in 46.82, which now is second only to Southland record holder Leonard Byrd (44.88) on UTSA's all-time performers chart. He trailed only Reggie Witherspoon (46.19) and Lewis Banda (46.52) and his time ranks third in the league this spring. In fact, it was the first sub-47-second quarter mile by a Roadrunner in five seasons.

Sophomore J.J. Jones was the Roadrunners' other gold medalist on Saturday, as he won the 800m in 1:54.59.

Junior Taylor Reed matched the program pole vault standard he estabished a year ago for the third time in the last four weeks on Saturday when he cleared 16-6 ¾ (5.05m) en route to a sixth-place finish.

UTSA recorded four other runner-up performances over the weekend.

Freshman Ryan Elizalde clocked 15:09.24 in the 5k at Saturday's VS Athletics Beach Invitational and the remainder of the squad's silver medals came in Austin. The 400m relay quartet of freshmen Trayvion Martin and Emmanuel Shaw, junior Tyler Williamson and frosh Daniel Perez passed the baton in 41.79, while sophomore Kerry Thompson leaped 6-8 (2.03m) in the high jump and freshman Tony Jaramillo clocked a career-best time of 1:59.09 in the 800m.

The Roadrunners will be back in action next weekend at the Bobcat Classic. The two-day meet begins on Friday, April 27, and it will be the the squad's final tuneup for the Southland Championships (May 11-13 in San Marcos).
