Texas-Pan American overwhelms Roadrunners, 18-13

SAN ANTONIO — Texas-Pan American knocked off UTSA, 18-13, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (11-14) cut a seven-run deficit to just two after scoring five times in the seventh, but the Broncs (12-5) answered with four marks in the following frame to put the wild affair out of reach.

Derek Hagy paced Texas-Pan American's 19-hit onslaught with three knocks and three RBIs and he also scored a game-high four runs.

Zach Zouzalik (4-1) gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and fanned three to earn the win in relief.

UTSA pounded out 17 hits, including four by senior Casey Selsor. The San Antonio native, who registered three singles and a triple, also drove in a pair of runs. Meanwhile, juniors Ryan Dalton and Jake Wood each went 3-for-5. Dalton scored three times, while Wood posted two RBIs.

The Broncs opened the contest with a pair of runs in the first, but the Birds responded with a five-spot two panels later to take the lead.

Each team continued the scoring in the fourth.

UTPA answered with a five runs, but UTSA pulled even with two more, thanks to Selsor's run-scoring triple and junior Daniel Rockett's RBI ground out.

The Broncs took the lead for good with a four-run fifth and they tacked on three more in the sixth.

Sophomore RJ Perucki's plated a pair with a double in the five-run seventh and Wood's one-out double one inning later plated the 31st and final run of the evening.

Junior Garrett Staudt (0-1) surrendered four runs on five hits in his one frame out of the bullpen.

UTSA's four-game home stand continues on Friday when it begins a three-game series with Southland Conference-leading and 28th-ranked Sam Houston State (15-9, 7-2 SLC). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
