Tyler McCulloch (CSCS, APCC) joined the UTSA Sports Performance Staff in September of 2024 and works directly with the Men’s Basketball and Women’s Golf teams. 

McCulloch came to San Antonio after serving as the Senior Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of San Francisco from 2022-24. In this role with the Dons, McCulloch oversaw training for all USF teams and worked directly with men’s basketball, volleyball and golf.

During McCulloch’s time at USF, he gelped the men’s basketball team to earn a pair of 20+ win seasons, four First Team All-West Coast Conferece honors - including the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Jonathan Mogbo. In addition, the Dons earned an NIT selection, helped along by the starters missing a combined zero games due to injury. McCulloch also played a key role in helping USF men’s golf team advance to the 2023 Division I National Championship and women’s golfer Riana Mission advance as an individual qualifier in 2024.

Prior to USF, McCulloch served as the Men’s Basketball Performance Director for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Chattanooga won the 2021-22 Southern Conference regular season and conference tournament championships, earning an NCAA tournament bid. McCulloch trained Lou Henson National Player of the Year Malachi Smith.

Before Chattanooga, McCulloch worked with the men’s basketball team at University of Houston in 2021 as an Assistant Sports Performance Coach. The Cougars would go on to win the AAC regular season and tournament championships before making a run to the Elite Eight. At Houston, McCulloch trained future NBA picks Marcus Sasser & Jamal Shead.

McCulloch previously served as an Assistant Strength Coach with Louisiana Tech football from 2020-21. While at LA Tech, McCulloch worked with several All-Conference USA players, including future third-round NFL Draft selection Milton Williams.

McCulloch’s start came at his alma mater, working with the University of Colorado Men’s Basketball team as a strength and conditioning assistant in 2019-20. During the season he spent with CU, the team won 21 games behind future NBA players McKinley Wright IV (1st Team All-Pac 12) and Tyler Bey (Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year).

In the summers of 2019 and 2021, McCulloch worked at the NBA Summer League as the event’s head of quality control. In this role, he acted as a liaison to all team personnel, including NBA owners, executives, coaches, and players.

McCulloch is an Albuquerque, N.M. native and was a four-year letterman for the football team at the University of Colorado from 2011-15. At the time of his graduation, he ranked in the top 20 in CU history in receptions and receiving yards, and was also named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team three times.

After graduating from Colorado in 2015, he spent two years playing professional football, participating in NFL training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before signing overseas in Italy and Sweden.
