Nik Turner joined UTSA’s Sports Medicine Staff as part of a partnership with UT Health San Antonio in March 2019 and works as the associate director and head football athletic trainer.
 
Turner is a native of Boynton Beach, Florida, and graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2010 with his bachelor of science degree in health sciences/athletic training. Before graduation, he completed a summer internship with the Seattle Seahawks (PFATS Minority Scholarship winner) in 2009.

He then went on to complete his master of science degree in exercise science with a concentration in health promotion/injury prevention from California University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2012.

While completing coursework, he provided athletic training services to the University of Northern Iowa football and women’s tennis programs in 2010-11 and then the North Carolina A&T State University football program in 2011-12. 
 
After graduation, he continued to work at North Carolina A&T as the head football athletic trainer from 2012 to 2014 before taking over the head athletic trainer position at Boonsboro High School.

Turner has also worked at San Diego State University as an assistant athletic trainer, covering the football and men’s and women’s tennis programs from 2014 to 2018.

Turner was at Old Dominion University in 2018-19 as the head football athletic trainer before joining the Roadrunners.

Throughout his time in athletics, Turner has been a part of two Mountain West Conference Championships (2015, 2016) and a tennis program that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

He is certified in National Academy of Sports Medicine-Performance Enhancement Specialist, National Association of Speed and Explosion Speed, Agility and Quickness Specialist, Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation and Sports and Orthopedic Regenerative Dry Needling Level 1.
 
In his free time, Turner enjoys movies, trying new food, lifting weights, hiking and spending time with his wife, Tiffinie, and children, Cameron and Cienna. His favorite superhero is Batman.
