Montè Harris joined UTSA in March 2023 as a graphic designer after nearly two years as a graduate assistant at Mercer University in central Georgia. Harris worked hand-in-hand with the Bears’ marketing and communications departments to develop digital content for multiple platforms, including social media, print, advertising collateral, motion graphics and digital displays. In addition, he also filmed and published numerous videos for the department.

Harris came to Macon from Boone, North Carolina, where he was a graphic design intern for Appalachian State Athletics Marketing from August 2020 through May 2021. While he was with the Mountaineers, Harris was tasked with creating various forms of visual content for teams, leagues and events, while also preparing designs for branded items, such as apparel, posters and equipment.

Harris also spent time with the City of Raleigh Communications Department in 2018 and 2019, working as a program assistant and a graphic design intern, collaborating with other designers and the art director on re-branding projects for the City of Raleigh.

Alongside his previous experience, Harris has also founded his own company, Harris J Designs, providing services such as logo design across various industries, photography and videography – developing two different apparel lines sold directly to the public.

Harris graduated from Appalachian State with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2021 and received his Master’s in Higher Education Leadership from Mercer in 2023. He was the winner of ASU’s Black Student Association’s Artist of the Year Award. He was featured in Voyage ATL Magazine in 2020 and Shout-out ATL in 2021. In his first semester at UTSA, Harris saw his work for the Roadrunners featured on SkullSparks.
