Michael Cox is in his eighth year as UTSA's head strength & conditioning coach. Cox designs, implements and supervises the year-long strength & conditioning programs for all 16 Roadrunners teams, along with supervising the UTSA weight room and its staff.
He is a certified strength & conditioning specialist for the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NCSA), a certified club coach for USA Weight Lifting and a certified personal trainer for American Council on Exercise (ACE). Cox also is a United States Powerlifting Federation and Special Olympics International Certified Powerlifting coach.

Cox came to UTSA after a eight-year stint at San Jose State. He began his stint as the Event Center Club Supervisor in 1992 and remained in that role for six years. In 1996, Cox was named an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach and served in that capacity until 1999. He was responsible for the design, implementation and supervision of the year-long programs for the Spartans baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, soccer, spirit, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball and water polo teams.
Cox graduated Summa Cum Laude in health science with a minor in sports nutrition from San Jose State in 1995. He then earned a master's degree in physiology and movement science in 1999 from San Jose State.
