UTSA Athletics Hall of Famer McKenzie Adams will join the UTSA Volleyball staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2024 season.
An inaugural UTSA Hall of Fame class member, Adams was one of the ‘Runners best, picking up two AVCA All-American awards and two conference players of the year honors between the 2011-13 volleyball seasons. She transferred to UTSA from Virginia after a stellar freshman campaign and quickly made an impact, claiming 2011 Southland Newcomer of the Year honors. Adding to her trophy case, she picked up the 2012 WAC Player of the Year and 2013 Conference-USA Player of the Year awards, earning first-team all-conference across all three leagues. Adams was a 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association third-team All-American, becoming the first in program history after receiving an honorable mention the year prior.
She remains a school record holder in several categories, including kills (653), attacks (1,575), and solo blocks (32) across a single season. A two-sport athlete for the Roadrunners, Adams also played basketball in the 2013-14 campaign, appearing in 16 games with 14 starts and scoring 6.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 24 blocks, and 14 steals.
Professionally, Adams has been a standout for various clubs over 10-plus seasons, showcasing her talent on the global stage. From Indias de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico (2014-15) to Ladies in Black Aachen in Germany (2016-18), SSC Palmberg Schwerin in Germany (2018-20), A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano in Italy (2020-21), Eczacıbaşı Dynavit in Turkey (2021-22), Igor Gorgonzola Novara in Italy (2022-23), Hisamitsu Springs in Japan (2023-24), and Cangrejeras de Santurce in Puerto Rico (2023-24), she’s left her mark. In 2024, she's set for her 11th season as a pro, as she's signed with League One Volleyball’s (LOVB) Atlanta-based club. Her professional experience includes over 20 competition wins, and she was named MVP of the German Supercup with SSC Palmberg Schwerin in the 2019-20 season.
