Marissa Edwards is in her first year in 2021-22 as the assistant athletics director at UTSA for academic services. 
 
A native of Hanford, Calif., Edwards is charged with the academic services for UTSA’s nationally ranked football program. 
 
She joins the Roadrunners staff after serving on the staff at Kansas State University, working as the director of football academic from 2019-21 and as an academic counselor, working with volleyball, men’s and women’s track & field, cross country and rowing from 2015-19.  
 
While working with the K-State football program, Edwards helped the team to the highest semester GPA in program history (3.406), also sporting an APR score of .994 for the 2019-20 athletics season. K-State football ranked first in the Big 12 Conference with a GSR score of 91 and an FGR score of 74 in 2019-20. She also helped lead the men’s track & field program to the highest semester GPA in program history in the spring of 2017 (3.278). 
 
Edwards was an advisor for K-State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2017-21, helping manage the end of the year awards show for the department, organizing a Hurricane Harvey Relief Drive that raised over 46,000 pounds of donations, coordinated a National Girls and Women in Sports Day for over 300 girls in the community and over 70 female student-athletes, and helped lead ‘Cats Across Continents’, a service abroad trip to build multipurpose sports court in partnership with Courts for Kids. 
 
She was honored in June of 2020 with the N4A Professional Excellence Award by the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development professionals. In June of 2021 she began a two-year tenure on the N4A Board of Directors as the Region IV Director. 
 
Edwards is an active member of the of the Women Leaders in College Sports since 2016 and was on the leadership committee for a pair of seasons for the Women of K-State organization. 
 
Before joining the Wildcats staff in Manhattan, Edwards worked as the assistant counselor for the University of Cincinnati’s student-athlete support services from 2014-15, working as the lead academic coach for football and men’s basketball. 
 
She opened her collegiate athletics career at Ohio University as the assistant academic advisor/learning specialist in the department of NCAA Eligibility and Student-Athlete Success in Athens. 
 
Edwards, who compete in water polo as an undergraduate student-athlete, earned her bachelor’s of science in health and exercise science from Colorado State in 2009. She later earned her master’s degree in sports administration from Fresno State in 2012.
