On July 9, 2025, head UTSA softball coach Vann Stuedeman officially announced the addition of 2025 NCAA Women’s College World Series Champion Mac Morgan to the coaching staff. 2027 will be her second season as UTSA’s pitching coach.
In 2026, UTSA had 24 wins for their most since 2015, and the squad wrapped up the campaign with a program-record RPI of 149. The team entered the American Conference Softball Championship Tournament slotted fifth, for their highest seed since the 2015 edition of the CUSA Championship Tournament, with 11 league wins representing the most since 2022. Under Morgan’s direction, the Roadrunners ERA improved from 5.53 to 4.87 (11.9% improvement), strikeouts increased from 196 to 251 (27% increase), runs allowed decreased from 348 to 320 (8% improvement, and opponent batting average decreased from .299 to .280 (6% improvement).
Freshman pitcher Arlette Hernandez became the program's first-ever Freshman All-American after making the NFCA Second Team, with Hernandez also earning an All-Region nod. Hernandez was one of four All-Conference selections, the most since 2022, as she made the second team and the all-freshman squad. Hernandez was the first UTSA pitcher to make an all-conference team since 2012 when the ‘Runners were a member of the Southland.
Morgan had an illustrious playing career that culminated in a national championship before getting into coaching. The Creighton, Missouri native began her collegiate career at Arizona State, where she was named third-team All-Pac-12 and All-Freshman en route to a conference championship and an NCAA Super Regional berth. From there, she transferred to Texas, where she cracked the All-Big 12 Second Team and earned NFCA All-Central Region First Team honors as a sophomore. She went 16-1 as a junior with a 1.96 ERA and multiple no-hitters, guiding her toward a career ERA of 2.47 with 45 wins, six saves, and 160 strikeouts. Additionally, she excelled in the classroom, earning All-Academic Big 12 honors before graduating with a degree in Sports Management.
