Jake Carlson is in his first season as an assistant coach with the UTSA baseball team. He was hired by head coach Jason Marshall after spending the last two seasons as volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M.

"I am excited to announce the addition of Jake Carlson to our coaching staff," Marshall said. "He brings over a decade of coaching experience to UTSA and comes highly recommended from those he's shared a dugout with. His experience at multiple junior colleges in our state and Texas A&M the last two seasons have positioned Jake for this opportunity.

"We look forward to his energy and expertise on the recruiting trail and with the offensive side of the game. Jake's character and work ethic were staples of every conversation I had in regards to considering this hire and it became obvious after meeting him that he would be a great fit for the challenges we face in Conference USA. I'm looking forward to working with Jake and equally excited to have him and his wife Jessica as a part of our Roadrunner family."

Carlson joins UTSA with 14 years of collegiate coaching experience. While in College Station, Carlson helped the Aggies to the 2016 Southeastern Conference Tournament title, a program first, and an appearance in the 2017 College World Series. Texas A&M posted a combined 90-39 record over the two seasons and produced 19 Major League Baseball Draft selections.

Prior to his time in College Station, Carlson spent three years at Howard Junior College, helping the Hawks to a combined 122-57 mark and a Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship in 2015.

He joined the collegiate coaching ranks in 2004 as a volunteer assistant at Nicholls State, and was promoted to a full-time assistant a year later. After a stint in Thibodeaux, La., Carlson made stops at Coffeyville Community College (2005-07), Odessa Junior College (2007-10) and Blinn Junior College (2010-12). He also served as an associate scout with the Kansas City Royals for five years.

During his career on junior college staffs, over 60 players went on to play at Division I schools. He has coached 41 players that have been selected in the MLB Draft and five All-Americans.

The Manhattan, Kan., native began his collegiate career at Butler County Community College, earning all-conference laurels as a outfielder during his sophomore season. He went on to Nicholls State to complete his final two campaigns.

Carlson earned a bachelor's degree from Nicholls State. He is married to the former Jessica Weynand of Brenham.
