Dr. David R. Schmidt received his medical training at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio where he also completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He completed fellowships in sports medicine and knee surgery in Sydney, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand.
Dr. Schmidt has been in private practice since 1986 and a team physician for UTSA since 2008. He also has served as physician for the U.S. Olympic Festival, World University Games in Japan, Olympic Games in Atlanta and the National Basketball Association's (NBA) All-Star Game.
He currently serves as the team physician for the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars, Trinity University and many local high schools.
Dr. Schmidt is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His expertise is in knee surgery and cartilage repair and restoration.
