A veteran of the UTSA Strength & Conditioning staff since 2006, Derrick Jenkins has served as Associate Director of Strength & Conditioning since 2013. He currently works with the baseball, men's golf, women's golf and volleyball programs. He also orders and maintains equipment, supervises work study, practicum and intern students and was the coordinator of the UTSA Strongest Man competition.

Jenkins is a certified member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), where he holds the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and the Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (RSCC*D) certifications. Jenkins is a certified member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), where he holds the Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC). Jenkins is recognized by USA Weightlifting as a sports performance coach in addition to being certified in adult CPR/AED/First Aid. In May of 2018, Jenkins received the prestigious Master Strength and Conditioning Coach distinction from the CSCCA.

He came to UTSA from the University of Montana, where he served as an assistant director of athletic performance for two years. Jenkins directed the lifting programs of women’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball, assisted with the department's other sports and supervised the graduate assistant coach and Intern.

In Spring 2004, he was a NSCA grant recipient and worked in the strength & conditioning facility of Brown University and had varying responsibilities with many of the Bears' 37 varsity sports.

Jenkins earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from the University of Evansville in 1996. He also holds two master's degrees — exercise science (Western Michigan 1999) and athletics administration (Central Michigan 2005).
