Daniel Bellamy was hired in January 2019 as UTSA Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine.

Bellamy will have oversight of all aspects of the UTSA Athletics Sports Medicine program, which provides supervision, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for more than 350 student-athletes, as well as leading collaborative efforts with team physicians and other members of the medical team. He also will serve as the department’s health care administrator and coordinate sports medicine coverage for all 17 NCAA Division I sports and the student-athlete drug-testing program.

A native of the Washington D.C. Metro Area, Bellamy came to UTSA from Howard University, where he served as Associate AD/Sports Performance from June 2015 through December 2018. He led all aspects of medical care and sports performance for 19 NCAA Division I sports and more than 350 student-athletes.

He also was an assistant athletic trainer at Howard from 2011-13, where he served as the athletic trainer for men’s basketball, men’s soccer, tennis and track & field and also assisted with the football program.

Bellamy was the Director of Sports Medicine at Coppin State from August 2013 to June 2015. He was the athletic trainer for the baseball, men’s basketball, tennis and track & field teams.

He got his start in the sports medicine field as an intern with the Chargers of the National Football League in the summer of 2008.

Bellamy was the head athletic trainer for the DC Armour of the American Indoor Football Association in 2009 while also serving as the athletic trainer at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C from 2008-2011.

Bellamy earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from North Carolina Central in May 2008 and his master’s degree in performance enhancement and injury prevention from California (Pa.) in 2015.

Bellamy and his wife, Brittney, have three children, Darren, Brielle and Britain.
