Former UTSA quarterback Cordale Grundy is in his first season as the program’s assistant wide receivers coach.

Grundy came to UTSA following a two-year stint at Michigan State. He served as the assistant tight ends coach in 2025 after spending the 2024 campaign as a graduate student coach on offense.

Prior to coaching with the Spartans, Grundy spent two seasons (2022-23) as a graduate student coach on defense at Colorado, working with the nickelbacks and safeties.

Grundy also has experience coaching in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, serving as the assistant cornerbacks coach in 2021 in his second year with the franchise. In 2020, Grundy was an offensive assistant coach for three months and then shifted into the scouting department (both college and pro).

A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Grundy began his coaching career at Minnesota after his playing career ended.

A quarterback at UTSA during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he passed for 993 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 164 yards and one score as a Roadrunner. He started nine games as a junior in 2018, including the season opener at Arizona State, and led the Roadrunners to a 25-21 win over Texas State.

He began his collegiate playing career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where as a freshman and sophomore he combined to rush for 534 yards and seven touchdowns and pass for 1,408 yards with 11 TDs. NEO claimed the Southwest Junior College Football Conference title his sophomore year in 2017.

Grundy lettered in football and basketball at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa. He earned all-state honors his senior year, passing for 1,688 yards and 18 TDs while rushing for 460 yards and four scores.Grundy earned with his bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies from UTSA in December 2019.
