Colt Atwood is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach at UTSA. Atwood joins the Roadrunners after a one-year stint at Ranger (Texas) Junior College.
Atwood was a four-year starter for Sam Houston State. He was named to the All-Southland Conference team three times and he helped the Bearkats to three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.
The Katy native was a 38th-round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics in 2014. However, Atwood decided to return to Huntsville for his senior campaign and became the program’s all-time leader in hits (294), at-bats (987), games played (240) and games started (238). He also was named to the All-Houston Regional team in 2012.
Following his playing career, Atwood moved into coaching and spent one season as an assistant coach at Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball. He then moved to the collegiate ranks as an assistant coach at Ranger JC last season.
Atwood earned his bachelor’s degree in general business from Sam Houston State in 2015.
