A member of the UTSA Athletics Department since October 2003, Kyle Stephens has led the Athletics Communications Office since March 2006 after serving more than two years as an assistant director.
Promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Communications in 2016, Stephens oversees the day-to-day operations of the department and media relations for all 17 of UTSA’s intercollegiate sports. He is the primary media relations contact for the sports of football, men's golf and women's golf.
Stephens has two decades of experience working NCAA Championship events. He was the local media coordinator for the 2006 NCAA Women’s Basketball San Antonio Regional, 2007 NCAA Men’s Basketball South Regional, 2008 Men’s Final Four, 2010 Women’s Final Four, 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Southwest Regional 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Second & Third Rounds, 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf San Antonio Regional, 2015 NCAA Women’s Golf San Antonio Regional, 2018 Men's Final Four, 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball Preliminary Rounds and Final Four and 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball South Regional, as well as the assistant media liaison for the 2004 Men’s Final Four and 2005 & 2011 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships.
The Kountze, Texas, native came to UTSA after serving as a media relations assistant at Texas from 2001-03. There he was the primary contact for the men’s and women’s track & field programs and the secondary contact for men’s basketball, as well as helping with the daily media operations for football. Stephens also was the co-editor for the home football game programs and served as media director for the 2003 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships and as assistant media director for the 2002 and ‘03 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Stephens was a sports information graduate assistant at Texas A&M from 1998-2001. There he helped coordinate publicity for the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams, as well as assisting with media services for all home football, basketball, soccer and baseball events. He was the co-media director for the 2001 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Stephens has worked over two dozen NCAA events — including 11 Final Fours — and more than 15 bowl games, including serving on the Valero Alamo Bowl's media services team since 2011. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Football Writers Association of America. Twelve of his publications have been honored by CoSIDA, including four as “Best In The Nation.”
Stephens earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport management from Texas A&M in 1998.
