UTSA volleyball head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff announced the hiring of assistant coach Jeff Fiorenza Wednesday.
Following two stellar seasons at the University of Kentucky, Fiorenza will coach Roadrunners setters, pin hitters, and team offense.
"Even though he's just starting out in the field, he has developed a reputation as a very 'mature' young person," Neugebauer-Groff said. "I'm thrilled to have Jeff and I cannot wait to get him on the court with the team and on the recruiting trail."
Under the tutelage of Kentucky's head coach Craig Skinner, Fiorenza was given the reins to work the setters and run the team's offense – the very same offense that won the Southeastern Conference the past two seasons.
"Jeff is a great hire for any program," Skinner said. "His knowledge of the game, his work ethic and patience with the players is amazing. He's a great teacher of the game and will bring great energy to the gym."
While a volunteer assistant coach at UK, Fiorenza worked with the Wildcats as they secured their third straight SEC Championship. When the Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2019, Fiorenza guided the Kentucky offense to an SEC leading 13.6 assists/set and .295 hitting percentage.
He also assisted in Kentucky going undefeated in 2018 in the SEC at 18-0, clinching a second straight SEC title to reach the Sweet 16, while finishing fourth nationally in hitting percentage at .301.
A native of West Chester, Ohio, Fiorenza graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in management and marketing. While a student, he was a practice player and played on the UK men's club team.
Fiorenza led the Wildcats to a third-place national finish in 2018, while earning All-Tournament First Team honors. He is a three-time MIVA All-Conference selection and helped the team finish second at the MIVA championships in 2018.
