Carlton Salters is in his fourth season as UTSA’s hitting coach.

Salters comes to the Alamo City after spending the past two seasons as a volunteer coach for nationally ranked Florida State, where he helped the Seminoles to their fourth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship, as well as their fifth straight trip to the NCAA Super Regionals

"I'd like to thank athletic director Lisa Campos and Michelle Cheatham for allowing me to join the Roadrunner softball program," Salters said. "I'm excited to be in San Antonio and I'm looking forward to getting to know the girls as well as the staff and make the upcoming season a good one."

While at FSU, Salters oversaw the outfielders while also assisting with the Seminole offense and baserunning. Under his direction, Florida State significantly improved in both of those areas as it set program records with 459 runs scored and 407 RBI in 2016. On the basepaths, FSU nearly tripled its stolen base output from 2015 (52) with 155 SBs in 2016, led by Morgan Klaevemann who finished fifth in the nation with 53. Seven different players swiped at least eight bases on the year, with 13 total players with at least one stolen base as the entire team became a threat to steal.

Prior to his time at FSU, Salters pursued playing professional baseball, securing a minor league roster spot on the AZL Giants of the Arizona Rookie League in the fall of 2010. Salters has continued to compete in independent leagues, playing for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League in 2011 and the Edinburgh Roadrunners in 2013, where the Roadrunners earned the United League Baseball championship. In 2015, Salters played for two teams in the American Association – the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Salters grew up in Tallahassee, Fla., and went to North Florida Christian High School where he excelled at both baseball and football. He attended Arkansas to play football, where he recorded 13 receptions for 185 yards and one touchdown in his three seasons with the Razorbacks.  Salters received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2016.
