Weston Kartes, a former assistant coach at Northwood University and Alma College in Michigan is in his second year as the video coordinator for UTSA men’s basketball.
Kartes began his tenure with the Roadrunners in 2021-22, serving as the video coordinator. He was charged with coordinating all aspects of UTSA’s coaching video coverage. In addition, Kartes plays an active role in coordinating UTSA’s social media presence.
Kartes joined the Roadrunners after serving as an assistant coach at Northwood three years, working directly with front-court players and developing and implementing the defensive scheme for the program. He also worked as the video and analytics coordinator.
During his time at Northwood, Kartes helped the Timberwolves to consecutive conference tournament finals in 2019 and 2020, finishing with 18 wins in 2020, their most since 2015.
Prior to joining Northwood, Kartes worked as an assistant coach at Alma, his alma matter, where he helped lead the Scots to the conference playoffs in 2017, their third straight postseason berth. He helped coach three all-conference performers, mentored eight National Association of Basketball Coaches honor roll student-athletes and helped recruit a total of 14 student-athletes to the program.
Kartes played basketball at Alma College, where he also played golf for two seasons. He helped lead the Scots to two consecutive conference playoffs, including a MIAA Tournament Championship and an Elite Eight run in 2016, when they went a school-record 24-7.
He earned his graduate degree in sports administration from Central Michigan in 2018 and a bachelor’s degree from Alma in 2016.
