Josh Modica joined UTSA’s Sports Medicine Staff in July 2013 and works primarily with the men’s basketball and cheer programs.

Modica is a native of Strafford, Mo., and graduated from Missouri State University in 2010 with his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Biomedical Science.

In 2013, he completed his Master of Science in Sport Administration at New Mexico. With the Lobos, he provided athletic training services to the women’s soccer program. During this time, he saw the Lobos win two Mountain West Conference Women’s Soccer Championships in 2011 and 2012.

Modica began as an intern with the UTSA Track and Field program in July 2013 before becoming a full-time athletic trainer for the program in 2014, winning two C-USA Outdoor Men’s Track and Field Championships.

After two seasons with the track and field team, Modica took over coverage of the men’s basketball program. Modica has also volunteered as an athletic trainer for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

He is certified in KinesioTape application and Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation.

In his free time, Modica enjoys being outside, collecting vinyl records and comics and listening to live music with his wife, Bobbie. Modica’s favorite superhero is Captain America and favorite villain is Morbius.
