A former UTSA standout, Austin Karrer is in his second season as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team. His duties include assisting with the planning and implementation of practices, recruiting efforts and special projects for the coaching staff.
 
During his first season, Karrer helped direct the Roadrunners to a second-place finish in Conference USA and its highest tournament seed in 14 years. UTSA boasted the nation’s highest scoring backcourt in Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace, and in the third year of the Coach Steve Henson era, UTSA sported the nation’s 19th fastest paced team. Karrer saw Jackson and Wallace earn all-league accolades, with Jackson notching first-team all-district honors from the NABC and USBWA. 
 
A native of New Braunfels, Karrer graduated from UTSA in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He was a four-year letterwinner (2014-18) for the Roadrunners on the basketball court. His career included 121 games played, including 100 straight to end his career. He ranks third in UTSA history in games played. 
 
Karrer’s UTSA career included 316 rebounds, which ranks 31st on the Roadrunners’ all-time list, along 242 points, 97 assists and 67 steals. In his final season of 2017-18, Karrer helped guide UTSA to a 20-win season and a quarterfinal round appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. 
 
He prepped at New Braunfels Canyon High School, where he was a two-time first-team All-District 25-5A performer.
