Junior (2018-19)

Starting point guard in all 35 games, totaling a team-high 976 minutes (27.9 per game) … averaged 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game … shot 40.4 percent from the field (109 of 270), including 34.6 percent (36 of 104) from three, and 67.6 percent (50 of 74) at the free-throw line … 3.5 assists per game led UTSA and ranked 11th in Conference USA, while 1.4 steals per game was also 11th-best in C-USA … finished with a 1.8 assist/turnover ratio, which was ninth-best in C-USA … double-figure scorer in 15 contests … shot 40.0 percent or better from the floor in 18 games and made two or more 3-pointers 11 times … UTSA’s leader in assists 19 times, steals 12 times, rebounds twice and points once … scored a season-high 17 points against both Texas State (Nov. 15) and Sam Houston State (March 22) … grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in regular season win over Marshall (Feb. 1) … contributed seven assists against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 24), Utah Valley (Dec. 2) and Nebraska (Dec. 20) … made game-winning shot with one second remaining in regulation to lift UTSA to a 78-76 win at LA Tech (Jan. 4) – the play was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter as one of the day’s top finishes … averaged a team-best 13.3 points in four postseason games … finished the season with 14 and 17 points against Lamar and Sam Houston State, respectively, in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament ... Freshman (2016-17)
Starter at point guard all 33 games ... one of just two freshmen in Conference USA to start every game (teammate Byron Frohnen was the other) ... finished the season averaging 8.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game ... named Conference USA Freshman of the Week (Jan. 9) after averaging 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of games and hit the game-winning 3-pointer at Louisiana Tech (Jan. 7) ... scored in double-figures 12 times, including 10 times in C-USA action ... averaged 9.1 ppg in C-USA play ... 1.7 steals per game ranked third in C-USA, while his 3.2 assists per outing ranking 13th ... recorded a season-high 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including four 3-pointers, at Southern Miss (Jan. 5) ... scored 14 points in the win over Utah Valley (Dec. 21) ... also had a season-best four steals against the Wolverines ... scored 15 points at Florida Atlantic (Feb. 25) ... dished out a season-best eight assists at Lamar (Nov. 22) ... pulled down a season-high seven rebounds at Utah Valley (Dec. 3) ... also earned the Conference USA Academic Medal, which recognizes student-athletes with at least a 3.75 GPA, and made the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Prior to UTSA
Played with the U20 Italian National Team in 2016 as it prepared to compete at the European Junior Championships … averaged 8.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while playing with Vicenza Basketball 2012 during the 2014-15 season and won promotion to Serie B … helped guide Casale Monferrato to the Serie A2 playoffs in 2015-16 … also played in the Nike Junior Tournament with Virtus Roma.

Personal 
Full name is Giovanni De Nicolao … son of Stefano De Nicolao and Antonella Dalla Valle … has two brothers, Andrea and Francesco … Stefano (Padova), Andrea (Reggio Emilia) and Francesco (Placenza) all played professional basketball in Italy … also, Andrea is the point guard on the Italian National Team and Stefano coaches the Vigodarzere club team that he founded … kinesiology major.
