Anthony Scelfo is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the offense. He works with the quarterbacks and tight ends and assists the offensive staff.

Scelfo, the son of UTSA offensive coordinator Frank Scelfo, played football and baseball for three years at Tulane before moving on to a professional baseball career.

At Tulane, Scelfo was a three-year letterman as a quarterback in 2005-07. A starter as a junior, he passed for 1,396 yards and six touchdowns and added 171 yards on the ground.

On the diamond, he earned first-team All-Conference USA honors as a junior after leading the team in triples, home runs, runs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage. Scelfo, who played all three outfield positions along with first, second and third base, also ranked in the league's top 10 in eight categories, including first in triples and walks, in 2008.

Scelfo was selected in the eighth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He played four seasons in the minor leagues, where he was named a New York Penn League All-Star in 2008 and the Erik Walker Award recipient for teamwork, sportsmanship and community involvement with the Hudson Valley Renegades.

A native of New Orleans, La., Scelfo was an all-state selection in both football and baseball as a senior at Jesuit High School, becoming the first Catholic League player to do so in 50 years.

Scelfo worked as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley in his hometown for three years before coming to UTSA.

Following his pro baseball career, Scelfo earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Tulane in 2013.
