Eddie Benavidez is in his third year as the quality control assistant for special teams. He is responsible for the scouting and breakdown of opponents’ special teams, organizing special teams and skill positions scout teams and preparing special teams videos for meetings.

Benavidez previously was a volunteer with the UTSA football program during the 2011 and '12 seasons, where he assisted with scouting, charting and video breakdown for the safeties and special teams.

Benavidez was a three-sport athlete at Mathis (Texas) High School. In football, he was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback and was named Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and first-team all-district as a senior. He was a four-year member and two-time all-district middle infielder for the baseball team and a three-year letterwinner for the basketball squad.

Benavidez earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from UTSA in December 2010 and his master’s degree in health and kinesiology from UTSA in May 2013. He was a two-time member of the UTSA President’s List (perfect 4.0 GPA) and three-time Dean’s List (3.75 GPA) honoree.
