John Roper is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach for the defense, where he works with the defensive linemen and assists the defensive staff. He is responsible for breaking down and organizing opponents’ film, instructing the scout team, generating practice schedules and scripts and assisting with the recruiting process.
Roper spent the last three years as a student manager for the Roadrunners.
Roper earned a letter during UTSA's inaugural season in 2011. He played in all 10 games, primarily on special teams, and recorded a pair of solo tackles. He also had a 2-yard rush on the program's first-ever fake punt attempt against South Alabama.
Roper was a two-year starter at defensive end and linebacker at San Antonio MacArthur High School. He posted 40 tackles and three sacks as a senior.
Roper earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from UTSA in December 2014.
