Junior (2013)
Played in all 12 contests (11 starts) and earned honorable mention All-Conference USA laurels … racked up 70 tackles (25 solos/45 assists), including three for loss … also was a part of three turnovers (1 INT/1 FR/1 FF) in addition to breaking up a pair of passes … recorded UTSA’s first interception of the year against UAB (Oct. 26) and added a season-high 10 stops in that contest … recovered a muffed punt in the end zone for his first career touchdown the following week at Tulsa (Nov. 2) … also had nine-tackle performances against Rice (Oct. 12) and at North Texas (Nov. 23).
Sophomore (2012)
Saw action in 11 games and started eight … did not play in the season opener at South Alabama (Sept. 1) … led the team with four forced fumbles, ranked second with five TFLs and was third with 73 stops (45 solos/28 assists) … also recorded five pass breakups, an interception and a sack … blocked a punt at Idaho (Nov. 17)… racked up a career-high 12 tackles at #22 Louisiana Tech … posted 10 stops, including a sack, against McNeese State (Nov. 10) … registered a half dozen tackles and two TFLs, forced a fumble, picked off a pass and broke up three throws at New Mexico State (Sept. 29).
Freshman (2011)
Started all 10 tilts … ranked fourth on the team with 59 tackles (30 solos/29 assists) and his nine for loss stood second … added three fumble recoveries, two interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles … also defended three passes and registered a half sack … had a season-high 11 stops (5 solos/6 assists), including 2.5 for loss, against Georgia State (Oct. 29) … racked up 10 (5 solos) more two weeks later at McNeese State (Nov. 12) … recovered two fumbles, picked off a pass and forced a fumble against Bacone (Sept. 24) … other interception came against Minot State (Nov. 19)… redshirted in 2010.
Prior To UTSA
A 2009 first-team Dallas Morning News all-area choice … led one of Metroplex’s top defenses with 105 tackles (61 solo), three for loss, 14 pass breakups and seven interceptions … also was named the District 6-5A Defensive Most Valuable Player … coached by Joe McBride.
Personal
Born Dec. 13, 1991 … son of Dianne and Chris Johnston … graduated this past summer with an exercise science degree and has been accepted in UTSA’s master of business administration (MBA) program for the fall.
