SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team is set to welcome No. 1 Texas Tech on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a sold-out nonconference bout at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners (20-25, 8-10 American) will battle the Red Raiders (40-3, 16-2 Big 12) as TTU represents the fourth-ranked opponent to travel to Roadrunner Field in 2026, the third top-10 opponent, and the second to be ranked atop the ESPN.com/USA Softball National Poll.
It will be the 30th meeting between the ‘Runners and Red Raiders, and the first since 2022. UTSA last hosted Texas Tech on May 3, 2017, when it swept a doubleheader, taking a 3-2 extra-innings win in game one and a 6-3 victory in game two. The Roadrunners are 12-17 all-time against the Red Raiders, including a 7-7 mark at home.
UTSA will look to bounce back after falling three times to Wichita State across their previous series. Freshman Brookelynn Meador provided a bright spot, hitting .444 against the Shockers with a home run and a pair of RBIs, while fellow newcomer Arlette Hernandez tossed two complete games, with 13 strikeouts over 12.0 innings.
The Red Raiders are fresh off a road series victory over Utah and will face Utah State on Monday before making the trek to San Antonio. Only No. 8 Nebraska, No. 12 Arizona, and Utah have taken down Texas Tech in 2026, and a .930 winning percentage leads the NCAA.
They rank second with a 0.85 WHIP and fourth with a 1.65 ERA. TTU is top five in nearly every offensive stat category, averaging 9.81 runs per game with a .395 batting average that slots them second behind only Oklahoma.
Kaitlyn Terry is fourth nationally, hitting .528, with Jackie Lis maintaining a .464 average for 26th, and Mia Williams is at .455, ranking her 34th. Mihyia Davis sits 12th with 64 hits across the campaign, and Williams has launched 16 home runs to lead the team, and her 59 runs scored are the seventh-most in the NCAA.
In the circle, Nijaree Canady has been one of the nation's top arms, with a 0.75 WHIP ranking third, while 17 victories are 10th and 151 strikeouts are 14th. The staff holds free passes to a minimum, with Canada, Kailtyn Terry, and Samantha Lincoln all ranking inside the top 20 on the NCAA’s strikeout-to-walk ratio leader board.
