SAN ANTONIO— Sophomore Enzo Vargas picked up the UTSA men’s tennis team’s lone point as they fell, 4-1, to Abilene Christian on Friday at the Eager Tennis Pavilion.
The Roadrunners (3-11) fell to the Wildcats (5-6) despite sophomore Oskar Grzegorzewski and freshman Constantin Radu taking down Dennis Dutine and Tomas Quesad, 6-3 in doubles. ACU, however, persevered as Luis Jose Nakamine and Ethan Scribner beat Vargas and freshman Timeo Bretin, 7-6 (2-0), and Jorge Aza and Marse Deli beat sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar and freshman Maximilian Ontiveros, 6-3, to secure the doubles point.
Vargas beat Quesada, 6-2, 6-2, to even things up, ahead of a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bretin for Deli, and a 6-3, 6-4 victory for Aza over Ontiveros. Rounding things out, Scribner topped sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar, 7-6, (7-5) to cement the ACU victory.
UTSA will look to bounce back, as they take on Texas Tech on Sunday at noon inside the McLeod Tennis Center.
