WACO, Texas – On Thursday, UTSA Women’s Tennis opened its stay at the 2026 ITA Texas Regional Championship. Seven Roadrunners hit the court on day one as the five-day tournament commenced from Hurd Tennis Complex, hosted by Baylor. A pair of newcomers earned victories in the Round of 64, setting up a busy Friday in Waco.
Laia Tarazona Peyro opened things up with a 7-5, 3-6, 4-6 showing against UTRGV. Akari Tomoyose followed up with a 3-6, 0-6 outing against Rice before Giuliana Giardina went 3-6, 1-6 versus Texas Tech. Celine Absawi got her own crack at Rice, taking the second set on a 7-4 tiebreaker but falling just short by a margin of 2-6, 7-6, 1-6. In the Round of 32 consolation qualifiers, the sophomore took down Sam Houston 6-1, 6-0.
Diana Khaydarshina picked up her side’s first win of the day, toppling UTRGV 6-1, 6-1. The senior transfer advanced to the Round of 32, where she fell to the hosts (1-6, 3-6). Aoka Nagasawa went down 3-6, 2-6 in the opening round to SMU before Gabriela Felix da Silva stole the show for Ki Kroll’s bunch on Thursday.
The first-year Roadrunner wowed against Abilene Christian to the tune of a 6-2, 6-4 victory, making her the second member of the Navy & Orange to advance. Felix da Silva took on Houston, advancing to the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over the Cougars.

The tournament rolls on with more action on Friday, including all eight Roadrunners gearing up for doubles play. Felix da Silva also takes on Juana Gomez Weiss of UTRGV, but the matchup is yet to be scheduled. Live results can be found at goutsa.com/wtenstats.
