White collects American Conference weekly award

IRVING, Texas — UTSA linebacker Darion White has been named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the 16-14 road win over Rice last Saturday night, the league office announced Monday.

White registered seven total tackles, including a pair of key stops on the Owls’ final possession. The Waco La Vega High School product had a sack for a loss of seven yards on first down with 1:40 remaining and then made the tackle on Rice quarterback Jacurri Brown’s rush on fourth down, stopping him five yards short of the line to gain to secure the win. He was one of three Roadrunners with seven tackles on the night, as UTSA registered 10 tackles for loss and three sacks in limiting the Owls to 232 total yards, including only 88 passing.

This marks White’s first career American Conference weekly award, and it is the first for the Roadrunners this season.

Memphis quarterback Marcus Stokes and Florida Atlantic return specialist Leonard Farrow collected the offensive and special teams honors this week.
