SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Roadrunners made the trip to Texas State over the weekend for the River State Shootout. In addition to UTSA and the hosting Bobcats, three out-of-state foes joined the tournament: New Mexico State, Northwestern State and Troy. Four members of Ki Kroll’s bunch competed in the event, each taking the court three times for singles action.
Laia Tarazona Peyro started things off, falling 2-6, 2-6 to Troy and 2-6, 6-7 (2-10) to Texas State. The sophomore capped things off with a victory over NM State by a 7-5, 6-3 margin.
Akari Tomoyose fell 1-6, 3-6 to Troy and 2-6, 3-6 to Texas State before matching her teammate with a victory over the Aggies. With a 6-4, 6-2 ledger the second-year Roadrunner toppled NM State’s second representative to cap singles play.
Giuliana Giardina took one set from Troy before narrowly falling to TXST 6-4, 6-7 (5-10), 5-10 tiebreaker. To wrap up her singles action, Giardina fell 0-6, 3-6 against NM State.
Gabriela Felix da Silva was the lone newcomer to compete on the weekend, also finishing as the lone ‘Runner to topple Troy. The Brazil native did so by a 6-1, 6-4 margin before falling to the hosts and the Aggies by the same score of 3-6, 4-6 in each matchup.
UP NEXT
On Thursday, UTSA begins its four-day stay at the Texas ITA Regional Championships. The Roadrunners will take the trip to Waco as Baylor hosts the event from Hurd Tennis Center.
