HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Victoria Schuldt tied for 15th place to guide UTSA to an 11th-place showing at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Sunday at University of Denver Golf Club.
Schuldt finished in a four-way tie for 15th with an even-par 216, leading the Roadrunners to 11th in the team standings. The sophomore from Hamburg, Germany, opened the 54-hole event with a 1-under 71 and then bounced back from a 75 in the second round with a 2-under 70 on Sunday, leaping nine spots up the individual leaderboard.
Teeing off on the back side of the course, Schuldt wasted little time notching her first birdie with a three on the 394-yard 10th. Following four pars, she wrote down a three on the 391-yard, par-4 15th to get to 2-under for the day. She then closed out a bogey-free back nine with a four on the 486-yard 18th. She added a fourth birdie on No. 7 to offset a pair of bogeys on the front en route to her fifth par-or-batter round of the season.
Lauren Rios and Yiwei Zhao both tied for 38th with an 8-over 224. Rios, a fifth-year senior out of Coppell, Texas, logged rounds of 75, 72 and 77 for the weekend. Zhao, a freshman from China, posted a 72 in round one and then countered an 81 with a 71 today that was highlighted by four birdies, three on the back nine.
Kayla Black grabbed a share of 67th (76-77-76—229), while Lydia Lin posted rounds of 72 and 77 and placed 85th after having to withdraw during Saturday’s second round. Maria Bastarrica finished 78th (80-78-77—235) while playing as an individual.
UTSA registered an 889 to take 11th, five shots ahead of a tie between Colorado State and Oregon State and six ahead of Boise State. The Roadrunners ended up just a half dozen strokes outside of the top 10 in the field won by UNLV (858).
The Roadrunners will close out the fall schedule on Oct. 12-14 at the Golf Iconic Classic in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
