Roadrunners ready for West Bay Collegiate Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will to the Sunshine State to compete in the West Collegiate Invitational, which will be held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 5-6, at West Bay Club (par 72/6,939 yards) in Estero, Florida.

The Roadrunners will bring a lineup consisting of David Martinez, Francisco Solorza, Brayden Bare, Gabriel Derbez and Cole Pregler, while Bryce Womack will compete as an individual.

UTSA will play against Appalachian State, Elon, FAU, FGCU, Houston Christian, Jacksonville, Lamar, Lipscomb, South Florida, Stetson, Troy, UCF, ULM, UTRGV and West Georgia.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring will be provided at scoreboard.clippd.com.

This will mark UTSA’s third consecutive trip to the Eastern time zone and the first appearance in the West Bay Collegiate Invitational.

The Roadrunners are coming off a 10th-place showing at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, North Carolina. Sam Acharya tied for sixth place with a 5-under-par 139 (71-68) to lead the way at the event that was shortened to 36 holes due to weather.

Martinez claimed a share of his first collegiate victory in the season-opening Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate on Sept. 6-8. He fired a 12-under 204 (68-67-69) to notch the best 54-hole total of his UTSA career, leading the Roadrunners to fourth in the team standings.

Martinez paces this week’s lineup with a 70.6 stroke average and three sub-70 scores over five rounds this season.

Solorza carries a 73.0 scoring average and a pair of par-or-better scorecards in five rounds. His top finish was a tie for 19th at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate.

Bare boasts a 73.4 average and two par-or-better rounds with his top finish of 36th coming at the Rod Myers Invitational.

Derbez has a 73.4 mark and three par-or-better scores in five rounds. The freshman from Mexico registered his top finish of 38th at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips.

Womack tied for 67th with a 224 that included a 4-under 68 in the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips, while Pregler will be making his UTSA debut this week.
