HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Lauren Rios posted an even-par scorecard to lead UTSA in the second round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Saturday at University of Denver Golf Club.
Rios turned in a 72 on the strength of 16 pars and a birdie on the 385-yard, par-4 seventh hole. The fifth-year senior jumped into a tie for 29th at 3-over par through 36 holes after notching a three-shot improvement today versus her opening-round 75.
Victoria Schuldt is the top Roadrunner, as the sophomore from Germany has a share of 24th at 2-over 146. She followed a 71 posted on Friday with a 75 today that included a birdie on the 517-yard, par-5 ninth hole.
Yiwei Zhao and Kayla Black are part of a tie for 57th at 9-over par. Zhao, a freshman from China, opened with a 72 and then turned in a 81 today. Black, a sophomore out of Canada, followed Friday’s 76 with a 77 that was highlighted by a trio of birdies.
UTSA is in 11th place in the team standings with a 595 (290-305), one shot ahead of Boise State and Colorado State and only two strokes out of the top 10.
Competing as an individual, Maria Bastarrica is tied for 81st (80-78—158) and Lydia Lin is in 85th.
UNLV (568) leads the team race, followed by Tulane (569) and Xavier (577) in the top three. Sophia Macias of Tulane has the individual lead at 6-under 138 (67-71).
The final round is set for Sunday.
