IRVING, Texas — UTSA linebacker Owen Pewee has been named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the 42-19 road triumph over Tulane last Saturday night, the league office announced Monday.
Pewee registered three sacks as part of five total tackles —all unassisted — to go with three quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. The Cypress Park High School product helped lead a defense that came up with a school record-tying six takeaways — the second most in an FBS game in 2026 — and limit the Green Wave to 332 total yards, including only 67 on the ground. His three sacks combined for a total loss of 26 yards, as he had a 10-yard sack in the third quarter and a pair in the final frame that went for nine and seven yards.
Pewee’s performance marked the eighth time a Roadrunner has recorded at least three sacks in a game, and he now is one of two American Conference players with that many sacks in a game this season. He has posted 37 total tackles, 22 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, six QB hurries, one forced fumble and a PBU this year.
This marks the third American weekly honor for the Roadrunners this season, as Darion White was named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5 and Caile Hogan picked up the special teams award on Oct. 19.
Florida Atlantic wide receiver Easton Messer was named American Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Army place-kicker Dawson Jones collected the special teams honor.
The Roadrunners are off this weekend before they return to action Thursday, Nov. 5, against Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT in Boca Raton and the game will be televised nationally on either ESPN or ESPN2.
