Roadrunners bow out of American Individual Championships

HOUSTON – On Thursday, the 2026 American Conference Individual Championships got underway from the Bayou City. Four Roadrunners represented UTSA at the league tournament, including a pair in doubles play. The Navy & Orange came up empty in the win column, bowing out of the 13-team competition on day one.

To open play, Diana Khaydarshina and Gabriela Felix da Silva paired up for doubles action. The duo of newcomers squared off with a Tulsa tandem, suffering a 2-8 defeat in the one-set matchup.

An hour later, Celine Absawi took to Court 7 for her singles duel with Carolina Laydner of North Texas. The sophomore from Israel failed to take a game in the opening set, but fought her way to a second-set tiebreaker. Despite the comeback attempt, the second-year Roadrunner saw her run end with a 0-6, 6-7 (9-11) final ledger.

One net over, Laia Tarazona Peyro laced up for her singles contest against Leonie Moeller from Memphis on Court 8. The sophomore flipped the script after a 3-6 defeat in set one, taking the second frame by the same score. Moeller prevailed in the decisive third set by a 6-2 margin, securing a three-set win and capping Tarazona Peyro’s day to the tune of a 3-6, 6-3, 2-6 score.
