SAN ANTONIO – For the second year in a row, UTSA Athletics will host ESPN ‘SportsCenter on Campus’ ahead of a game with the show airing from Rowdy Town Live at the Alamodome’s H-E-B Plaza prior to UTSA’s nationally televised football game against South Florida on Thursday Oct. 8 from 4-4:30 p.m.
Hosted by anchor Matt Barrie, 'SportsCenter on Campus' brings ESPN's flagship program to college campuses on Thursdays throughout the college football season, capturing the atmosphere, traditisons and storylines surrounding that week's matchup.
UTSA hosts South Florida at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN. Rowdy Town Live opens at 3 p.m. and parking lots open at 12 p.m. Doors to the Alamodome open at 5 p.m. The spirit walk will also be in Rowdy Town Live for this game, commencing at approximately 3:45 p.m.
The County Line will be serving free spicy grilled chicken wings to fans attending SportsCenter in addition to free smoked BBQ chicken nachos at their regular set up at Rowdy Town Live.
Additionally, the Alamodome is giving free popcorn for the first 1,000 fans and selling $4 hot dogs among other discounted concessions at Rowdy Town Live from 3-6:30 p.m.
The first 5,000 current UT San Antonio students in attendance will receive a free Lights Out t-shirt, courtesy of Cowboys AC & Heating.
Last year, UTSA Athletics host the largest ‘SportsCenter on Campus’ in ESPN history.
Students and fans are invited to gather at Rowdy Town Live beginning at 3 p.m. to be part of the national broadcast of the network’s flagship sports news program, which will highlight the university’s traditions and San Antonio’s culture and history.
During the show, Rowdy and Las Palapas mascot Okie will destroy a South Florida-themed piñata provided by Las Palapas.
Located in the H-E-B Plaza and VIA Bridge on the north side of the Alamodome, Rowdy Town Live is completely free for all UTSA fans to take part in pregame festivities which include a live DJ set and family-friendly carnival-style attractions, including a video game truck, inflatables and more.
Sponsors with activations in Rowdy Town Live include Cowboys AC, Dos Equis, PepsiCo, The County Line, Thomas J. Henry, Travel + Leisure, UT Health San Antonio, and ZOA Energy. These sponsor activations feature free giveaways, promotional items, vehicle displays, food sampling, opportunities to sign up for additional giveaways, and much more, making Rowdy Town Live a must-visit for fans of all ages.
Barrie will host this edition of ‘SportsCenter on Campus’, giving viewers the latest sports news, highlights and features as part of ESPN's ongoing college football coverage.
Fans can purchase tickets to the game online or by calling the UTSA Athletics Ticket Office at 210-458-UTSA (8872) weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Current UT San Antonio students receive free admission by downloading tickets at GoUTSA.com/StudentLogin.
Current UT San Antonio students can also take advantage of free shuttle service to and from the Alamodome beginning at 3 p.m. at the North Paseo Bus Oval on UTSA's academic campus. Return shuttles begin at the start of the fourth quarter until one hour after the game ends.
SportsCenter, ESPN's flagship program, is a daily sports news television program offering breaking news, highlights, features, and in-depth analysis from award-winning journalists, with multiple live editions airing daily. Every Thursday during the college football season, SportsCenter originates live from the site of that night’s nationally televised game on ESPN, which in this game is UTSA vs. South Florida.
