'Runners hit the road for pair in the Tar Heel State

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – This weekend, UTSA Volleyball hits the road for the first time in American Conference play. The Roadrunners are set to visit Charlotte and East Carolina on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Head Coach Carol Price-Torok’s bunch eyes a return to the win column after an eight-match winning streak was snapped last weekend with a pair of five-set home defeats to Tulane and Florida Atlantic.

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Over the weekend, UTSA opened American Conference play, hosting Tulane on Friday before welcoming FAU on Sunday. The Roadrunners dropped both contests in five sets, suffering their first reverse sweep of the season at the hands of the Owls. The defeats were UTSA's first at home this season, dropping to 5-2 in San Antonio while snapping an eight-match overall winning streak.

BLOCK PARTY

UTSA has posted at least seven blocks in 10 of 13 matches this year, including four outings in double figures. The squad averaged 2.08 blocks per set in September, holding opponents to a .178 hitting percentage while mashing .276 offensively. Seven Roadrunners reached double-digit rejections on the month, headlined by Ledisi Kpea's 44 for an average of 1.19 per set.

PLANE AND SIMPLE

This weekend, UTSA takes its longest trip of the campaign, playing two matches at campuses a combined 2,732 miles from home. The ‘Runners only return to the eastern time zone for one other match this season, visiting Temple on Sunday, Oct. 25. Seven of UTSA's final 11 matches will be played in the Lone Star State, including four straight to end the regular season.

ABOUT THE 49ERS

Charlotte is under the direction of second-year head coach Benavia Jenkins, who holds a record of 20-22 in her time with the program. The 49ers are out to a 3-10 start this fall, most recently falling to both East Carolina and Temple in straight sets to open league play.

Last year, UTSA and Charlotte met just once, with the Roadrunners prevailing in four sets from the Convocation Center. Ally Tribe led the way with a 12-kill, 12-dig double-double while Caroline Tredwell poured in 10 digs and Giada Obregon paced her side with 18 digs.

ABOUT THE PIRATES

ECU is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Adler Augustin, who holds a 216-180 record in his time with the program. The Pirates toppled Charlotte and Rice over the weekend, opening American action with six set victories in seven tries, swelling their winning streak to three.

ECU visited UTSA for the two sides’ only meeting in 2025 as the Roadrunners picked up a sweep, hitting .384 to the Pirates’ .173 mark. Caroline Tredwell and Brooke Elliott each notched a team-high 11 kills, hitting a combined .618 while Giada Obregon led the way in 12 digs and three aces.

UP NEXT

UTSA is set to open next weekend’s action on the road, taking on Tulsa (10-3, 2-0 AMER) at 6 p.m. from Reynolds Center. Two days later, the ‘Runners return home to take on South Florida (2-10, 1-1 AMER) in a 1 p.m. Sunday affair.
