NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Junior Meryeme Mai turned in a fourth-place performance for the UTSA cross country team on Friday in the 2026 Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational at the Burke Golf Course. Mai and the women placed 11th in the women’s Gold Division 5k, while the men finished 17th in the Blue Division 8k.
Mai clocked in at 17:23.90 to secure fourth, while freshman Kira Albino was next to cross the tape, with a time of 18:16.22, slotting her 46th. Not far behind, classmate Cadence Harris was 53rd in 18:20.6, and fellow newcomer Ana Garza was 95th in 18:43.22. Freshman Haley Hill and senior Gracie Ortiz finished back-to-back, with Hill 148th in 19:17.81 and Ortiz 149th in 19:19.46. A trio of newcomers followed, with Alexia Rosas in 196th at 20:01.49, Isabel Burke 202nd in 20:11.87 and Ryland Ross-Jurado 206th in 21:03.11.
Sophomore Ethan Carranza led the men with a time of 24:42.9, slotting him 77th, while classmate David Zuniga was 107th in 25:08.5 and freshman Zac Mangum 115th in 25:16.7. Sophomore Austin Lyda finished 128th in 25:37.4, while newcomer Thomas Tamayo placed 141st in 26:02.1. Freshman Christion Meiners placed 150th in 26:37.1 and classmate Matthew Cato was not far behind with a time of 26:43.6, slotting him 153rd. Rounding things out, freshman Murff McLaughlin placed 154th in 26:52.5.
UTSA will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 16, as they compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational at the Dale Watts XC Course in College Station, Texas.
